Haus of Moulin Noir is a Black queer cultural institution rooted in Ballroom, built through art, education, community, and collective care.

We exist to create places where people can learn, create, perform, belong, preserve culture, and build futures together.

Why we exist

A HAUS BECAME SOMETHING MORE.

Moulin Noir began with Ballroom—but what we were building was always bigger than the floor.

We saw artists who needed places to practice. Young people who needed mentorship. Creatives who needed opportunities. Community members who needed somewhere to belong. Cultural knowledge that needed to be preserved. And extraordinary Black and Brown queer talent that deserved investment.

So we began building an ecosystem around the people already creating the culture.

Today, Haus of Moulin Noir brings together Ballroom, art, education, cultural preservation, artist development, community, and creative opportunity under one Haus.

We are not building programming around community.
We are building infrastructure with community.

WE COME FROM BALLROOM.

Ballroom is more than performance. Born from Black and Brown queer and trans communities, Ballroom created its own systems of family, mentorship, competition, artistry, language, fashion, recognition, and belonging. That lineage shapes how Moulin Noir understands the world. The Haus is where we practice. Where generations teach one another. Where artists develop. Where chosen family becomes responsibility. Where culture is carried forward. We don't simply present Ballroom. We live in relationship with it.

CULTURE SHOULD CREATE OPPORTUNITY.

Black queer culture has shaped fashion, music, dance, language, nightlife, art, and popular culture far beyond the communities that created it.

Moulin Noir believes cultural preservation must also include economic participation.

We are building pathways for artists and cultural workers to develop their craft, create original work, build professional experience, access paid opportunities, and participate in the economies their creativity helps generate.
